Banana forum 2023

The Third International Forum of Fairtrade Bananas will bring together Fairtrade banana buyers as well as producers from Latin America and the Caribbean, important players in the sector, clusters and non-governmental organizations on April 17th, 18th and 19th, 2023.  

The forum has the slogan: “Sharing Responsibilities in Building Decent Livelihoods and Climate Resilience

Information about Fairtrade banana in Latin America and the Caribbean:

The first Fairtrade banana exports began from Ghana in 1996 and in 1997 from Ecuador in Latin America.  

Under the principles of Fairtrade, its values and objectives, with a minimum price according to the cost structure of each country of production and a greater participation in the industry value chain, twenty years later, the region produces and exports the 94% of the world trade in Fairtrade bananas, with an annual export of 545,000 MT (65% of total production), generates an average annual income of $255 million in sales and $30 million in premiums for social and environmental investment for its producers. , workers and organizations certified under Fairtrade. 

Hence the importance of cultivation and Fairtrade for the socioeconomic development of small producers in the region.

Both FORUMS are FREE OF CHARGE to our partners, but each participant will cover their own logistical costs (air transport), airport-hotel transfer service, accommodation in the Dominican Republic and other personal expenses.

CLAC´s banana network

The banana network is one of the product networks of the Latin Americana and Caribbean Network of Fair Trade Small Producers and Workers (CLAC), that represents and gathers 107 Fairtrade´s Small Producer Organizations of banana in 8 countries of the region.

As part of CLAC´s structure, the Banana Network is a consultation and coordination body, made up of a representative of the Small Producers’ Organizations of each one of the producing countries of the Region
